Acai Morning Sun Juice
Will consumers get juiced over the aa berry?
Find out about the astounding health properties of this healthy snack, food, juice, and smoothie ingredient. RioLife supplies the acai berry as a frozen fruit pulp to cafe, juice bar, and home consumers.
At this stage aa is just scratching the surface of consumer awareness in Australia, but if the Californian market is anything to go by, this super-fruit is in a league of its own within the health food industry. It can be argued that aai is the healthiest fruit on the planet because of the balance of nutrients it offers.
In Australia aa has become readily available through RioLife (www.riolife.com.au), a Sydney based business operated by three young guys, who have been friends since school days. The young entrepreneurs were traveling in Rio de Janeiro last year, when friends introduced them to what the young men call a Rio Bowl - liquefied aa pulp and guarana blended with banana and topped with granola and sliced bananas. After seeing the amazing success of the product in Rio and California in 2005, the trio decided to start their own company ‘RioLife’ and bring the aa sensation to Australia.
RioLife partner Jeremy Liddle said they launched aa at various bars and cafes on the Northern Beaches. “The main products are the famous Rio Bowl, Rio Juice and Rio Smoothies which are based on authentic Brazilian recipes. The business also has a home delivery facility so consumers can experiment with their favorite fruits to make Rio Bowls for breakfast or as a snack,” said Liddle.
The three partners are also considering the idea of entering the energy product market. Aai combined with guarana is a strong healthy competitor for the many canned energy drinks on the market. Also, like Red Bull, aa is proven to mix fantastically with alcohol.
“At this point, RioLife is focusing on grassroots marketing to highly health-conscious consumers such as at new-age festivals and sports competitions, as well as introducing the product with in-store promotions and demonstrations,” continued Liddle.
RioLife has succeeded in getting some restaurant chefs to cook and experiment with aa and the news and entertainment media are beginning to pick up on the buzz surrounding aa as well.
“It’s RioLife’s goal to make aa an essential lifestyle fruit for healthy living and sustainability as every unit sold is contributing to the sustainability of the Brazilian rainforest,” said Liddle.
Riolife’s aa is now available through Manly Freezers, Balgowlah and Manly cafs Fresh at Manly, One Earth Organic and Rion Caf - and at Dee Why’s Sea Change cafe. The business is rapidly expanding. Please visit our website at www.riolife.com.au for further updates.

ABOUT RIOLIFE
Riolife was inaugurated in 2005 and launched its premium product Aa in November 2005. Riolife has the distribution rights for Aa from Palm Beach to Bronte and focuses on health food stores, cafes and restaurants as well as a home order service.
RioLife’s focus includes not only a love affair with aai fruit and its nutritional qualities, but also the romance of the Amazon rainforest and the ideological allure of acai’s sustainable-agriculture platform. The popularity of aai offers a way to encourage the spread of so-called “sustainable” agriculture in the rainforest: the more the Amazonians are encouraged to tend to crops of wild aai, the less likely they are to strip the trees from the forest in order to convert the land into arable plots. For this reason world renowned pro surfer Joel Parkinson and other pro sportsmen and media icons such as Oprah are endorsing the fruit.
In line with this environmentally friendly approach RioLife chooses to supply and promote the use of bio-degradable packaging, encouraging all caf and juice bar owners to use this fantastic new idea instead of PET or conventional packaging products. The bio-degradable packaging, made from corn starch, decomposes in roughly 60 days.
ABOUT AA
Aa’s taste is generally described as that of a berry with a hint of chocolate. In Brazilian beverages aai is usually mixed with guarana, a stimulant extracted from another native-grown berry. There’s no doubting the current marketplace momentum for products such as aai, a berry found growing wild in the tops of an Amazonian palm tree that is cultivated by rainforest denizens.
The berry is nearly completely seed; after being harvested wild the skin is stripped off at the point of processing and mixed with water to make a pulp. Aa pulp contains an impressive nutritional elixir. At the top of its nutrient list are anthocyanins, powerful antioxidants, of which aa contains amounts 33 times greater than red wine and significantly more than other fruits such as blueberries, that have recently been gaining attention for their antioxidant content.
Aa also contains omega-6 and omega-9 cholesterol-fighting fatty acids, more protein than the average egg, essential amino acids, and vitamins and minerals ranging from vitamin E to calcium. And, one last thing, any drink or meal containing an aai guarana mix acts as an instant energy booster. Oh yes don’t forget - the native people of the Amazon claim it is a natural aphrodisiac.
